- Item: HS197
- Description: Polished "Cotton Rock" Adz - This Adz is highly polished and appears to have been double ended. One end has been treated badly. (see photos). It is made of highly polished "Cotton Rock". This material is called "Cotton Rock" because of its light weight compared to it's mass. When prehistoric man pecked and ground this material into shape, it was a much heavier stone. However, over the years that it laid buried in the ground, it's weight "leaches" out. The result is that it becomes, in varying degrees, much lighter than it was originally. Because of it's lack of heft, modern agricultural methods really reek havoc on artifacts made of this material. Whole examples of this material are unusual. Ex- Monty & Jewdy Pennington

- Description: Cotton Rock Adz - This Cotton Rock Adz was found along Otter Creek near Lake Cumberland, in Kentucky. It has a nice bit and good symmetry. Good examples such as this Adz are rare. Ex- Claude H. McCartt Collection
